Recreational Diving in the Shuswap and Mara Lakes

For the last 20 years, Copper Island Diving has been exploring the depths of Shuswap Lake and Mara Lake. We have compiled a list of our favourite dive spots for other divers to enjoy.

The Caves

A wall and cave dive. A continuous flow of water results in a gentile current and interesting sculpted features including a series of small caves and swimthroughs.

The Pinnacle

A wall dive. The walls on this dive are steep and smooth, and extend toward the surface.

The Lime Bluffs

A wall dive. Features a sheer wall that rises straight up.

Adams River

Every fourth year, from mid-September to late October, some two million sockeye salmon gather here as they prepare to enter the river to spawn.

Scotch Creek

An alternative to the Adams River salmon run, this site has a much smaller run and it occurs in late August.

Scotch Creek Point

A railway barge wreck sits at this site.

Copper Island Wall Dive

Features a steeply sloping wall that decends below recreational diving levels.

Copper Island Houseboat Wreck

A sunken houseboat lies on a rocky shelf beside Copper Island.

Reedman Point

Wall dives, and training site. There are a number of small and large walls at this site.

Eagle Bay

A wall dive. Features a wall dive that descends to about 130ft.

Shannon Beach

A wall dive. Features a limestone wall that has been sculpted by erosion.

Cinnemousun Narrows

The Alvera, a tug boat wreck, lies here. It is a Dive Heritage Site, and the boat is burnt to the waterline, but the hull, engine and transmission are preserved.

Semaphore Point

The Witesmith Icebreaker Ferry wreck sits at this site. The wreck is a Heritage site, and contains a plaque placed by the Underwater Archeological Society of British Columbia.

Canoe Point

A wall dive. Features overhangs and current sculpted surfaces at various levels.

Herald Provincial Park

An easy beach dive. This site features a steadily sloping bottom.

Sunnybrae Provincial Park

An easy beach dive. This site features a very gradually sloping bottom that drops off farther out in the bay.

Large Wooden Barge

An entry level dive.
